Riverland Drive
THE LATEST
On January 22, 2026, County staff requested County Council reallocate funds from completed or discontinued Transportation Sales Tax (TST)-funded projects to existing approved TST projects which have projected funding shortfalls, including the Central Park/Riverland project. The final vote approving this shift in funds took place January 27, 2026.
DESCRIPTION
Charleston County is working on transportation improvements to Riverland Drive between Henderson Road and Woodland Shores Road. The corridor is broken into three individual segments:
The section of Riverland Drive from Henderson Road to Crape Myrtle Drive is under preliminary planning now. The goal is to connect this segment with a 5’ sidewalk to the next phase, the now-completed Riverland Drive/Camp Road project.
The Riverland Drive/Camp Road project includes a 6’ sidewalk along Camp Road from the Riverland/Camp roundabout to Camp Road Middle School, as well as a sidewalk from the roundabout to Crape Myrtle Drive, and a 10’ multi-use path along Riverland Drive from the roundabout to the Lowcountry Senior Center.
The Riverland Drive/Central Park Road project includes:
- crosswalks and rapid rectangular flashing beacons (RRFBs) to alert motorists to pedestrians crossing Riverland from Central Park Road, as well as from Woodland Shores Road;
- repair of existing sidewalk along Riverland Drive, starting at Woodland Shores;
- construction of new sidewalk where none currently exists, extending down to the Lowcountry Senior Center.
Riverland Drive/Central Park Road is scheduled for bid advertisement in the first quarter of 2026.
