DESCRIPTION

In 2021, the Town of Mount Pleasant completed their Mount Pleasant Way Master Plan, a proposed network of connected multi-use paths to enable safe and efficient travel for those biking and walking between neighborhoods and to key destinations. Since adoption, the Town has successfully sourced funding and completed installation of segments, and is actively working to advance many more.

In early 2023, the Town passed a Target Zero Resolution that aims to reduce and eventually eliminate traffic-related deaths, with a strong emphasis on vulnerable road users and populations who experience disproportionate impacts. In June 2023, the Town — with input from key community stakeholders, including Charleston Moves — completed a Safety Action Plan, which incorporated data and recommendations from Mount Pleasant Way. “This resolution and Safety Action Plan focus on addressing existing crash trends, making equitable investments in transportation infrastructure, implementing strategies and specific goals for improving Town-wide safety, and monitoring progress towards the Town’s Target Zero vision.” In December 2023, the Town of Mount Pleasant was awarded a federal grant to implement Phase I of their Safety Action Plan. They received $15.78M to implement 17 priority projects identified within their Safety Action Plan. Find their Plan document HERE. Community meetings will be scheduled for individual projects, so stay tuned — we’ll be sharing those details as they are made available.
